News and urgent information will be posted here
22-11-2022 We have now started to take new members but note these are being taken from our waiting list. A few weeks ago, the first of just under 20 people started and to achieve this we need to manage our resources of: coaches, equipment, space and time.
If you are interested in starting it is essential you email us via the website to let us know your interest. You will then be added to the list. Please do not just turn up at the club.
For people who already fence and have their own equipment the situation is different, email to let us know you are coming and make sure your BFA membership is up to date.
19-09-2022 There will be no club on this Monday as the centre is closed due to the State Funeral
06-06-2022 There hasn't been much that has changed since the last post. BFA still advise a full three-day quarantine period between the use of fencing masks and gloves, plus they cannot be shared on the day. We are gradually approaching those who have expressed an interest but this must still be managed so please do not just turn up.
09-10-21 To clarify the current position at the club which is the same as mentioned below. If you have your own equipment and clothing please come along, but please email before hand so you are aware of the current protocols that may be in place.
For new fencers there are still restrictions in force that prevent us from taking large numbers of new members and mean that only one session can be used. This is primarily due to quarantine rules place as advised by the National Governing Body (NGB) for our sport.
If you have emailed via this website or used the email address we will have it and will acknowledge your email in due course but this may not be immediately.
Please remember this club is run by volunteers who carry out their roles in their own time and of course are unpaid.
We have started a stall group of beginners to establish that our protocols and to try and work out how best to go forward.
We know this may not be what you want to read but we are bound by what the NGB states we MUST do
09-09-2021 The current position at the club is as follows -
(i) Current members we are back and operating during the week. Most of the club equipment is available if you still require to borrow some. BUT gloves and masks cannot be used
(ii) If you are a new member and have your own equipment* please come along on Monday and or Friday time as shown on this site except we tend to finish a bit earlier on Friday
*To current standards i.e. N rated such as 800N
(iii) New members with no or little equipment. If you have not already done so please email the via this website. To those who have already emailed the club we are sorting out times etc so we can start you off. This maybe initially in small groups
(iv) Saturday Junior Club is still on hold at the moment
(v) Please be patient with us
Those attending the club please note we are in the Activity Hall for a few sessions only while the gym is being used by the school for Covid purposes.
12-05-21 We are recommencing on 17-05-2021 on Monday and Friday. To attend you MUST book and complete the session form for each session. Links were sent out this morning. If you did not received the email and want to attend please email us. But please note there are restrictions on numbers and you must have all your own fencing equipment and clothing. Full details accompany the links.
10-05-2021 We are currently planning to return on Monday 17-05-2021. Email to be sent to members once you are able to book. If you do not receive emails from the club and you are a club member please contact us. Note the previous restrictions remain in place so you must have your own equipment.
09-04-2021 the position remains unchanged at the moment. The club on weekdays is attended by under and over 18s therefore the earliest we can start is May 2021. As the facility used on Saturday has been withdrawn from the Borough's use by the County this section cannot currently operate. When we do resume BFA protocols will be applied as they have in the past. This site will be updated as soon as there is an update.
28-09-2020 The club is currently back but on a very limited basis. This is on Friday 19:30 to 22:00 and you must book and pay plus complete the session form but the times specified. Numbers are restricted and so must be managed. Do not just turn up on the night as you will not be permitted entry. Spectators and parents may not enter the venue (Borough Council policy) and in any case there isn't the room.
Details on procedures etc. have been emailed out to members but if you have not received them please email Lyndon, this can be done through the "Contact Us" page of this site. Members are strongly advised to keep an eye on the media and the BFA website in case there is a change making sport not possible to run.
10-09-2020 at this current we cannot take new fencers or those without their equipment. This is because the club's stocks are not available. This is in accordance with BFA guidelines. We will shortly be running a trial session to test the systems that need to be in place before we can reopen. This, will be in a much reduced format and will require the need to pay and follow specific instructions.
Members are recommended to read the Covid-19 page on the BFA website in order to keep ahead. We will contact our members by email as things develop.
03-09-2020 Advance notice - when the club resumes the school have not made the Activity Hall available to Leisure World so there can be no Saturday Club at the moment, discussions are ongoing.
24-08-2020 Currently the Highwoods Sports Centre is not open. We are in regular communication with their management and as soon as we know we can return to the venue we will contact you. We will also post a note here. If you are a current member of the club and have not been receiving our emails please let us know via the "Contact Us" tab.
30-06-2020 I know most of us will know family or friends who will have been affected by the virus and I hope those affected have made a full recovery.
At this stage I have information as to when we will resume, however being realistic the Saturday Club will not recommence until September.
Once I become aware of when the Borough is reopening their facilities I will post a note here and issue out an email.
